November Must-Buy: Cropped Knit Sweater

You know we're crazy for knits of all kind, but what's this month's must-buy style? Shrunken or cropped knit sweaters – get on it!
Worn incredibly well and almost religiously by Teen Vogue's Mary Kate Steinmiller this season (seen above), shrunken or cropped sweaters are what we want now.
To tell you the truth, we really want one in particular: the cable-knit wool-blend sweater by Adam (below), which comes in gray or red. Every morning I wake up and search my closet for it, but alas, it isn't there because I haven't quite decided that it's worth $325 yet. We're also lusting over the Ami Dans La Rue cashmere cropped sweater sold at Shopbop (also $325), which we fell for during Shopbop's press preview earlier this week.
Why the current obsession? Well for one thing, shrunken or cropped sweaters are incredibly warm as they're knit and worn close to the skin. They are also much more flattering than their over-sized counterparts. We'll be wearing them with high-waisted jeans, trousers, and super full skirts that hit at the natural waist. Throw a belt over your sweater at the natural waist and you're getting Prada's Fall 2010 look for much less.
For less expensive options try Topshop's knitted tuck crop jumper ($70), or knitted cable side zip short sleeve jumper ($80), both shown at top. You could also hit up the boys department at the GAP, which is where we found the Intarsia skull sweater ($39.50), at top center. Of course, you could always wash your other sweaters in super hot water and dry on low heat to get a shrunken sweater the old fashioned way.

Went into Gap Kids to buy the skull sweater. They were sold out of my size. -

Me too, India. They were sold out of them at 3 GAP Kids in the city so I just ordered the xxl skull one online. We'll see how it fits. Fingers-crossed! -
