If you're anything like me, you often daydream about the big, beautiful, "real" adult apartment/home you'll one day own, decorate, and live in – but do you often think about your future self and what sort of space you'll want in 20 years down the line when making purchases today? I'm starting to more and more, which only makes pulling the trigger at the register even more difficult whether, I'm buying a rug, a bowl, or even an occassional chair.
Speaking of chairs... I first became obsessed with the ideas of custom chairs when interviewing a vintage jewelry expert years ago and she told me about her unending quest for one-off chairs and how she has them all re-worked and covered in antique brocade fabrics (Can you imagine?! I die). And as much as we might like to spend our days scouring flea markets and such for little gems, most of us have work, family, and friends to keep us busy. But behold today's Object of Desire, Kartell's Mademoiselle chair.
Not truly a one of a kind piece, but the Mademoiselle comes with enough options to make you feel as if you're buying something custom, when in fact you aren't. It also has a youthful flair to it's an overall design that you'll love from your first studio to the foyer of your own grand palais, where perhaps it may rest one day.

What is it? The Mademoiselle Chair. This is an innovative design for an armchair because of its clever and novel combination of two aesthetic qualities: the structure is an injected mold of transparent polycarbonate upon which four fasteners are placed, allowing for a sturdy, yet flexible frame, fit for a seat made of expanded polyurethane. Mademoiselle’s advanced technology consists in the use of unusually thick, soft fabric for the seat, which provides for maximum comfort and enhanced aesthetic quality. It boasts a harmonious design and extraordinary comfort.
And while all of that is fina and dandy, what we really love is that the Mademoiselle is available in lots of different patterns and fabrics. In addition to the prints chosen by designer Philippe Starck, the collection is completed by a new fabric with a sophisticated crocodile effect making Mademoiselle eclectic, trendy, and hella StyledOn. Every so often new fabrics are introduced, which seem to float chicly on their ghost-like legs. It's $860 a pop, my friends, so be sure to take care of your chair.

Who to blame for this obsession of ours? We blame both Philippe Starck and Kartell, as well as Missoni and Dolce & Gabbana for this one. The very first Mademoiselle chairs we went crazy for were Dolce's leopard version and one of Missoni's, but the real mastermind behind the design is the one and only Philippe Starck. Considered the best known designer in the New Design style, Starck’s career started to climb in earnest in 1982 when he designed the interior for the private apartments of the French President and has since worked on everything from Sam Nazarian's gorgeous SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills to the Zimku Parrot speakers.

No matter how big or small your latest fixation may be – spice bowls or bookends perhaps (I've been searching for the perfect rose quartz ones for years) – if you treat each item you bring into your home as an object of desire you'll end up with a place you can truly call your own! Find the Mademoiselle chair that suits your space – and personality – and you'll have it for years.
