It may be spring, but we're not in the clear yet thanks to April showers. Stay StyledOn all month long and invest in a classic trench coat you'll love now and wear for years to come.
First developed as an alternative outerwear option for British and French soldiers during the First World War, the trench coat has now become one of most iconic styles ever worn. Invention of the trench coat is claimed by both Burberry and Aquascutum, and now there's nary a design house that hasn't sent one down the runway. A favorite of comic book illustrators, costume designers, leading figures, and real men and women alike, the coat adds an undeniable dose of mystery and sophistication to any look.
Perfect for the transitional season and protecting yourself from the April showers we're bound to endure all month long, the trench coat is this month's must-buy item. Explore our favorite styles below (starting at $49) and find the one that's right for you...

Under $100: High/Low trench coat by Free People (now $49.95); Twill trench coat by Zara ($89.90); Staring at Stars sleeveless trench coat at Urban Outfitters ($79)

Under $250: Liverpool cropped trench by Madewell ($158); Trench vest by J.Crew ($110); Khaki trench travelling coat by Emersonmade ($228)

Under $550: Leopard trench coat by Veronica Beard ($495); Ruffle duster trench coat by Rebecca Taylor ($525); Dip dye belted trench by Gryphon ($460).

$550 & Beyond: Linen burlap short trench by Alexander Wang ($650); Sateen trench coat by Burberry ($1,995); Botanical-print trench coat by Stella McCartney ($2,045);

Crazy Expensive, but AMAZING: Studded snakeskin cropped trench coat by Burberry (probably more $$$ than your college education).
Do you already own a trench coat? How many do you own? Will you be investing in a new one this month?

I love all these styles! I'm a little ashamed to say that I don't actually own a trench... but it's because I'm waiting for the perfect, holy grail trench. -

I have at least 5: a great classic one from Theory; a cropped black one from BCBG; an emerald green Abaete one; a wool/silk blend ivory one (also Abaete); and a trench cape from H&M. And seriously, I do think I could add at least one more to the mix. Yes, I have a problem. -

this is the perfect rainy day for a trench feature! i have a cute cropped one by H&M but I'd like a longer classic one so i don't get drenched. The emersonmade one is my top pick atm. -

I have three trenches. Two are in the standard tan color (one from GAP, one from H&M), and I have a black one that I wear all the time :)
