Not for the birds. Daniel Pouzet and Fred Frety's Nestrest is the stuff fairytales are made of. Welcome to our first Object of Desire.
Sometimes we're not sure why something catches our eye. Why we become obsessed with 'it' items is a little more transparent than why we become so taken with something more obscure or random. Our obsessions range in size, strength, and some last a lifetime, while others are over and done with in less than an hour.
In a new series to StyledOn, we're taking you further into our ever-evolving world one object of desire at a time. First up? Daniel Pouzet and Fred Frety's extraordinary Nestrest.
We first spotted this hanging beauty while gazing through the closed windows of Dedon on Soho's Greene Street (which is THE street to hit for true interior inspiration and shopping) a week or so ago and have been dreaming about it ever since. California dreamin' on such a winter's day we may be, but don't you also want to curl up with a good book in this exquisite nest swinging gently somewhere near a vineyard in Napa?

What is it? Nestrest is an over-sized bird’s nest offering us a secluded, suspended sanctuary and unusual meeting place: it’s the perfect place for relaxation, meditation and open-air conversations. The nest is made of super-strength Dedon fibers woven into a beautiful, yet sturdy hanging lounger pleasing to the eye and touch. The Nestrest can be customized as well: choose your own weave, fabrics (from polyester to leather), colors, and patterns to truly create an escape pod you'll never want to leave.
Who to blame for this obsession of ours? Daniel Pouzet and Fred Frety, that's who. And they just happen to be two of Paris’s most intriguing design talents. Close collaborators of Jean-Marie Massaud, with whom they have forged new ways of working and approaching design, they bring a rich diversity of experience to each project they undertake, alone or in a team.
Pouzet has collaborated with Philippe Starck on large-scale architectural commissions (read more about Starck's work on the SLS Hotel in our interview with Influencer Sam Nazarian here), and also worked on projects ranging from Renault’s architectural identity to the groundbreaking Chivas stadium in Mexico. Frety worked with Marc Berthier, then with Werner Aisslinger, before joining up with Massaud and Pouzet in 2004 and collaborating with them on projects ranging from bathroom fixtures to yachts to a sustainable village in the Philippines.
Why are we so obsessed with it? There is something absolutely otherworldly about the Nestrest – almost as if it fell out of a Tim Burton fairytale, or perhaps the cult-classic, Legend. If we climb into one, we might never ever leave. Nothing before has ever promised so much escape.
