If there is one fall fashion issue to splurge on, it's French Vogue's October edition, celebrating 90 years in style.
If you’ve never bought an issue of French Vogue, don’t feel guilty. The price tag is heftier than that of its American counterpart, and with a sea of stateside publications to wade through, trying to decipher the French text can seem like too much to handle. Vogue Paris’ October issue, however, is not to be missed. The 90th anniversary issue will feature photography from heavyweights Mario Sorrenti, David Sims, Terry Richardson, Steven Klein, Hedi Slimane, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. As well as republished features from the Vogue archives, including a feature on Romy Schneider (below) with a photo by Helmut Newton, unaltered from its first appearance in 1962.
For the uninitiated, Vogue Paris is an entirely different bird from its US counterpart. While Anna Wintour has sought to bring Vogue to a wider audience by incorporating affordable fashions, "Age Issues," and luring stars onto the glossy’s covers, Carine Roitfeld has taken a different route for Vogue Paris. Uninterested in affordable fashion, Roitfeld rarely features movie stars on her covers, never offers styling tips for ladies with a less than rail-thin figure, and could care less whether cigarettes are PC for the pages of her publication – they’re going to print either way. Roitfeld’s Vogue is, in a word, unapologetic. It’s always aspirational and rarely “real world.” Her elitist approach may alienate some readers, but for devoted fashion-lovers the world over, Vogue Paris is the final word on what’s fierce, what’s now, and what’s the ultimate in chic.
Pick up the October issue of Vogue Paris when it hits newsstands in late September, and check out our sneak peek, below.
