Feast your eyes as high concepts meet high heels in this Brazilian footwear designer first outing.
It's no secret that footwear is experiencing a renaissance – and there seems to be an astonishing burst of electric creativity going on. From McQueen's armadillo/alien inspired 12" stilts, to Nina Ricci's gravity defying platforms, it's all about putting your best (and most avant-garde) foot forward. Enter Andreia Chaves and her highly conceptual take on cobbling.
Reigning from São Paulo, Brazil, Chaves is currently studying in Florence where her interest in form, texture, and visual experimentation has lead her to create some very buzz-worthy spikes. The blog-o-sphere is brimming with praise for Chaves’s "Invisible Shoe", a mirrored heel that makes the surrounding environment a key part of your ensemble.
Her other designs, such as the “Prism Shoe,” “The Form & Texture” and the “The Velcro Shoe” are all indicative of this designer’s ability to make out-of-the-box designs both functional and beautiful. Citing influences like StyledOn favorites Martin Margiela and Yohji Yamamoto, Chaves’s inspirations are almost as far flung as her cultural experiences, as she explains to Yatzer.com:
"The fact that I grew up in a chaotic city like São Paulo, full of contrasts, being in contact with such diversity and constant exposure to different visual inputs, has inspired me in how I think and conceptualize my shoes. Looking at my work, I can clearly see influence coming from my South American sense of versatility. Also in the mix - what I have been experiencing in Europe."
Chaves is set to debut a new batch of these well-heeled wonders in February 2010, and we cannot wait to see what she comes up with this time around! We’re putting our money on Lady Gaga to be one of the first to bring these incredible designs to life.
Who do you think could rock an Andreia Chaves design?
