Seeing Spots

Whether on the runways of Alexander Wang or in the front row at Elise Ă˜verland, lately, leopard print has been spotted all over the city.

Seeing Spots

Face it people, leopard is just one of those trends that won't die. With it's natural drama, the print captivates us while creeping back into fashion time after time - but that doesn't mean its easy to tame.

An overpowering print, leopard works best with simple silhouettes and a more neutral palatte. True, designers such as Roberto Cavalli manage to wrangle it into gorgeous gowns that women claw at, but head-to-toe leopard simply doesn't work for everyday wear. Many times, just a spot of the print can be dead-sexy - a hint is really all you need to showcase a bit of your wild side. A great scarf (we love the ones by Bindya), an amazing pair of booties or pumps, and even the right printed bag can make your look instantly StyledOn.

So just who is wearing leopard print these days? No, not just Victoria Beckham, Pamela Anderson, or Rihanna. All throughout fashion week, from the front rows to the afterparties, the print was out in full force although it hasn't been considered a major trend for the fall at all. From editors to super celeb stylists like Rachel Zoe, the subtle infusion of leopard print has been bananas.

Don't be afraid to mix leopard with other prints (the result can be killer), but do keep in mind that it is a difficult pattern to play with. Look to the talented mix master, Dries Van Noten, and his past collections for a bit a visual reference when mixing prints and think about how leopard can play into your existing wardrobe. More and more we are seeing the brilliant and liberating play with prints being taken from the runways to the streets and, well, we like it. A lot.

But as much as we like this modern mix and mastery of the spotted print, we also must issue a warning about it: When worn with something very tight, red, and revealing, leopard has the tendency to make you look like a gold digger. Just sayin'.

While the standard leopard print still seems to be the most favored, we're feeling it in shades of grey and punched up with pop colors. Right now we'll satisfy our craving with the offerings from Net-a-porter including the Mulberry Bayswater bag and Christian Louboutin ankle boots seen to the left. Next spring, we'll be beating down the doors to get a hold of the open-toe booties that just hit the catwalk at Alexander Wang.

So, are you loving or loathing leopard right now? Feel free to comment below...
