Opening Ceremony Sample Sale: The Skinny

Thinking of investing your afternoon in some sale shopping at Opening Ceremony? Know before you go – we've got the juicy details.
Following my score at their winter sample sale, I was pretty amped for Opening Ceremony’s spring offerings, so Abbie and I headed down Broadway and got in line at about 10:45 – and thank goodness. Just 10 minutes later, the line was all the way down the block, and we waited a solid 40 minutes before finally getting in.

Being a shoe girl (and having picked up two gorgeous pair last time) I stopped there first. After making a long hard assessment (refer to photos below) I decided there was nothing great for the ladies. For men, however, there was a great selection of sneakers and hard-bottoms, as well as a rogue pair of boots.

On to the apparel: Again, slim pickings. There was a rack of United Bamboo that looked pretty worse for the wear, a few pretty Richard Nicoll pieces, a handful of Suno dresses in completely unflattering shapes (this coming from huge Suno fan), and again, two or three racks of TopShop (someone please explain this? I have never figured this out…). There was a rack of Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony that looked pretty good but was a few season old, mostly pencil skirts and blousy jackets, as well as a few shapeless wool suits. Erin Wasson x RVCA was not a favorite among shoppers, but at $15 for basic tank tops and $55 for her faux-leather wrap-vest, the prices were mostly right. All in all, there were no must-have pieces. Everything a little too off-trend and the clothes were not in very good shape. I did grab a few basic items, but nothing I had to have (and nothing I couldn’t have found for the same price, sans 40 minute wait, elsewhere).

A rack of Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony (forgive the blur).

The best item we saw: This Proenza Schouler stunner.

The sad, sad shoe collection.

The fray.
The verdict: if you have nothing else to do, it's a nice enough day to enjoy the sunshine during the very long wait, but after seeing so many fashionable women leaving empty handed and a thorough perusal of the racks, I'd say skip it.
Will you be going to the Opening Ceremony sample sale today?
