Previously known to the public simply as "Marc Jacobs' boyfriend" (or husband, depending on the rumor mill that the day), Lorenzo Martone is stepping out on his own with a new swimwear line, Nycked.

Marc Jacobs' Beau Launches Nycked

It’s gotta be tough to be Marc Jacobs’ boyfriend at times – the constant overshadowing by his success, the endless rumors about marriage and secret weddings (et al), and simply being a satellite to such creative output must eventually take its toll. But rather than throwing a personal pity party, Lorenzo Martone has stepped out with his own swimline, Nycked.

Designed in collaboration with the woman behind Bijules, Jules Kim, the collection steps away from the sunny floral and neon trends for summer with dark fabrics and accents. Martone says, “We saw an opportunity in the marketplace for something cooler and more downtown. Swim seems to be dominated by an L.A. aesthetic, and our collection brings a New York attitude to it.”

If this sneak preview is any indication, with its dirty girl makeup and styling, they really went all out with the “downtown” aesthetic. It does feel a little heavy handed and late to the trend, but there are no doubt plenty of women who (even at this point in the game) will be happy to get into this collection. The suits will retail for $120 to $130, and the designers are targeting both swim-specific boutiques and department stores alike.

What do you think of these edgy suits? Ready to dive in with Nycked, or do you prefer the more LA-inspired collections incuding 1Sol?

im thinking the downtown look may in fact still be welcome in the often electrically hued beaching circles

I must admit that I not feeling these suits; they look ill-fitting (and with swim, it is ALL about the fit), are rather boring, and the model needs a steak (or 6). I'm afraid I'm just not a Nycked girl.
