With all the fashion coverage coming at us from all sides, we recommend taking in some other cultural mediums this weekend (or just opting for a spa day).
Music
Friday night, head to Lincoln Center to check out the Dirty Projectors (who played at the Ace Hotel-Opening Ceremony Party last weekend and are pictured above). Debuting their first album to big buzz in 2009, the Dirty Projectors have the chops to back up the hype: incredible vocal range and control, and captivating melodies. The Dirty Projectors; Friday, Feb. 19, 8:30 p.m.; Lincoln Center - Allen Room; 10 Columbus Cir. (Time Warner Center, 6th floor), at 59th St; 212-875-5050.
Theater
For something different this weekend, check out The Debate Society's latest show, called Your Welcome: A Cycle of Bad Plays. Don't be fooled by the title, the show has gotten great reviews, and "the goofy enthusiasm of the troupe is contagious," according to the Village Voice. The show runs now until the 27th, and is a playful response to all the praise that has been lavished on the troupe (and has ironically only served to garner more praise). Five goofy plays for only $18? That's a deal we can get down with. You're Welcome: A Cycle of Bad Plays; By Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen; The Brick Theater; 575 Metropolitan Avenue; Brooklyn. 212-352-3101.
Art
Artist Kiki Smith debuted a new, site-specific exhibition this weekend at the Brooklyn Museum, "exploring ideas of creative inspiration and the cycle of life in relation to women artists." Smith's work frequently reflects a decontruction of gender roles and representations, as well as exploring race and religion. The exhibit, called Sojourn (partially for Sojourner Truth and partially for the idea of a sojourn from oneself) runs now until September 12th. Kiki Smith: Sojourn, at Brooklyn Museum of Art; Wednesdays-Sundays. Continues through Sept. 12; 200 Eastern Pkwy., at Washington Ave; Crown Heights. 718-638-5000.
Etc.
If, like us, you're feeling harried from the past week (or two) and need need some serious R&R this weekend, treat yourself to a spa day. Mani, pedi, massage: the works. Book now at the Great Jones Spa, and schedule a blowout with their new stylist Mariel for only $40 with your other treatments. You'll be pampered and pretty again in no time.
