Getting to Know DANNIJO + A Sample Sale

We love the eclectic new take on timeless luxury that DANNIJO jewelry offers its devoted fans. The handmade line, which features loads of colorful swarovski crystals, rows of spikes and layers of chains, has seen extraordinary growth since its launch in 2008 by sisters Danielle and Jodie Snyder.

DANNIJO now includes five distinct collections including Rock (seen below) and Grace–and most recently the duo has introduced the obessesion-worthy Boho range including ethnic bibs with vintage beads and horn, chest grazing amulet necklaces and stackable stingray cuffs.dannijo rock

Fresh from their pop-up shop in the Fifth Avenue window of Henri Bendel, Danielle sat down with StyledOn to fill us in on DANNIJO and what we can expect to see from them in the upcoming year...

StyledOn: What inspires the designs and the materials that you use?
Danielle Snyder: We always design jewelry that we [Jodie and I] would want to wear. Our inspiration can be anything from a song we love to a mood or pattern. We're constantly inspired from remnants of the past. When we're not wearing DANNIJO, we're usually wearing vintage. Right now we're really into effortless boho aesthetics. There's something incredibly sexy about au naturel, down-to-earth beauty. The Boho collection was inspired by Native American motifs, the color palette of the Masaii tribe, ethnic prints and the 'jeans and a tee' girl.

SO: Speaking of girls... who is the DANNIJO customer?
DS: She is the confident woman that can take the jewelry and make it her own. She doesn't dress according to trends–she's inspired by them, but dresses to her individual mood and personality.

SO: What are your individual roles in the design process?
DS: We collaborate in the design process–I'm much more bohemian and rock 'n roll inspired, while Jodie's style is a bit more classic and sophisticated. We infuse our different personalities into the creative process which makes for a very eclectic, but wearable line. We have an incredible time designing together, but aside from the creative process we have very different roles. Jodie handles much more of the business side and I work with the website, social networking and PR related initiatives.

SO: What is your must have piece from the collection?
DS: The new Boho Hendricks necklace (below left) is amazing! I haven't taken it off in weeks.dannijo boho

SO: Will we be seeing you at the upcoming New York Fashion Week?
DS: Yes! We are collaborating with Luca Luca on jewelry and belts. We have done fashion week partnerships in the past, but this will be our first time in the tents! We are also once again providing jewelry from our own collection for the Walter show.

SO: Do any childhood dynamics or old habits ever crop up between you and Jodie?
DS: Of course! But it's usually an asset. The benefit to working with a sibling is you know what you're getting into–you know what their strengths and weaknesses are, and you do your best to carve out your own roles so there is not too much overlap. We really enjoy working together and are passionate about what we do, so it's been a very positive experience.dannijo cult

SO: What can we expect from DANNIJO in 2010?
DS: We're working on a handbag line and some other exciting ventures outside of the jewelry domain, so be on the lookout... (hint: we love music and film)

We can't wait to find out what Danielle and Jodie have up their sleeves! And I, for one, find it truly refreshing that the sisters are so involved with every aspect of DANNIJO–from finding inspiration to updating their blog.

See below for details of tonight's little spring cleaning event and hopefully we'll see you there:
