Although Alexander McQueen may not be with us physically, his spirit lives on in every single one of his pieces. Now, a look at the designer's final collection for Fall 2010, which is nothing less than spectacular.
Nearly one month ago, news of Lee Alexander McQueen's sudden death spread like wild fire throughout New York Fashion Week. Today, his final collection was presented in a series of seven intimate showings, and now, I find myself weeping.
A true visionary, McQueen was one of the most beautiful designers of all time. His hand was so fiercely feminine and romantic that at times his work almost hurt to look at; so stunning, so absolutely certain, so confident. Looking through the images of his final collection (which have all been included here), my face feels pulled into that of a gargoyle and my stomach, a heavy, cold stone. I feel almost farcical sitting here at my desk and crying while looking at images of his collection on the small screen of my MacBook Pro–but I cannot help myself. The loss of McQueen is obviously much greater to those who knew him personally, but to us–his millions of fans around the world–the loss is very real as well. There has never been another designer’s show that I have wanted to attend as much as McQueen’s, and there never will be.
According to Jess Cartner-Morley (who wrote a fantastic article on the collection for the Guardian), McQueen's final collection looked to Byzantine art, to eternity and to angels for inspiration. We share with you now the entire collection, in order of presentation, starting with the top, left image.
