You might know Madewell 1937 and you might not–it sort of depends on where you live. The line launched just a few years ago as the cooler, edgier sister of J.Crew with former Lucky editor at large Gigi Guerra as the director of brand marketing. Offering everything from the best sweatshirt blazers to a wide varity of denim, Madewell currently operates 17 stores nationwide. Online shopping is not available at this point but will be late Spring 2010, although pieces currently pop up here and there on J.Crew's site.
Alexa Chung, as you well know, is one of our favorite Brits and fast becoming an icon in her own right. The model and TV personality best known for her quirky personality and sexy tomboy aesthetic, will make her first foray into design with her collection for Madewell, hitting store in August, 2009. "I love how [Madewell's] vibe is a mix of vintage and new," says Chung. "It completely clicked with me.”
The collection, Alexa Chung for Madewell, will include polkadot tea dresses, dungaree dresses, high-waisted skinny jeans, oversize wool jackets with velvet and lace accents, and T-shirts with Chung’s photographs and illustrations, reports WWD. Prices for the line will be consistent with Madewell’s, running from $14 for illustrated tees to $500 for motorcycle jackets.
For some reason we have a feeling this is going to look a lot like Rebecca Minkoff's RTW (which we happen to LOVE).
What do you think about this? Will you wear Alexa Chung for Madewell 1937?
