From new heads of house at McQueen and Ungaro, to new collaborations and severed ties, it's been a very big week for the fashion industry.
There were lots of big announcements coming through the fashion wire this week, beginning with the news that Giles Deacon will head to Emanuel Ungaro as creative director.
Next came the announcement that Jean Paul Gaultier, who has served as the artistic director of women’s ready-to-wear at Hermès (a StyledOn fave) for the last seven years, will exit the house to focus on his own line. He is succeeded by a name with much less fanfare surrounding it: Christophe Lemaire, currently the creative director at Lacoste. Considering that Gaultier is such an established and revered designer and was preceded at Hermes by Martin Margiela, Lemaire certainly has some big shoes to fill.
Yesterday we learned that Olivier Theyskens (who has been largely MIA from the fashion world since his exit from Nina Ricci) will design a capsule collection for contemporary basics brand, Theory. Considering Theysken’s design history and Theory’s more conservative lean, we’re eager to see what will come of the collaboration.
And perhaps the biggest news of the week was the announcement that a creative director has been chosen to helm the house of Alexander McQueen: former head of design of women’s wear, Sarah Burton. The choice was logical and solid, bearing in mind that Burton, a Central Saint Martins grad, worked alongside the late Lee McQueen since 1996. We are confident she will carry the mantle of McQueen’s legacy with honor and skill.
Lastly (and in a little more lighthearted news), we've heard through the grape vine that our perennial favorite Khirma Eliazov is offering 20% off selected styles through Memorial Day. Visit her site to take advantage of the deals and score a sweet bag this weekend!
With one more day left in the work week, there could be more big news to come! What fashion news are you excited about this week?
