Alexander Wang Freja Boot

February 22, 2010

Alexander Wang has been on an accessories kick since introducing the studded Coco Duffle. This season, editors and fashionistas can't seem to get enough of the Freja boot. Time to take a closer look at the boot everyone is currently obsessed with...
Alexander Wang Freja Boot

There's no denying that Alexander Wang's Spring 2010 Collection has been one of the most celebrated of the season. The clothing? Easy, sexy, sporty-done-right. The beauty? Flawless, and the messy side braid easily became one of the biggest trends of the season. The footwear? Absolutely bananas.

The tri-tone leopard bootie was definitely swoon-worthy, but it's the Freja boot that's getting major play in all of the March 2010 issues: Harper's Bazaar has the boot featured on well over seven pages; ELLE has it on four; and Vogue placed it in two separate editorials as well. So why all the attention? See below for our dissection and verdict on this one...

The Dissection: Seen on the Spring 2010 runway, this boot comes in a variety of fabrics and colors including black, olive green and black & white striped. Created as a boot-within-a-boot, the outer layer can be peeled down to reveal more or less of the inner (and all black) layer via the vertical lacing. In addition to the football-inspired lacing, the boot also features a double zippered detail in front. The heel? Sturdy and wearable (not too high). The Freja boot also features a dramatic peep-toe giving lots of toe cleavage and ample room to show off that pedicure.

The Downfall: The outer zippered layer looks as if it might possibly dig into the foot. Also, that deep peep-toe cut-out will probably have you slipping forward, so you might need Foot Petal Tip Toes for this one.

Verdict: Hitting on about a zillion trends at once, it's no wonder the editorial world has flipped for it. Packed with attitude to spare, Alexander Wang's Freja Boot is definitely worthy of a fashion moment (and a shoe we'd love to own), but there are plenty of other shoes that could have been featured along side it in the March issues. There are, afterall, many, many pairs out there worthy of some action as well.

What say you? Love it or loathe it?
