Style blogger Shannon Licari of Dirty Hair Halo sits down with StyledOn to talk trends and why they're all fine by her, dressing for snow, and the best time of the day to check the clock.

Shannon Licari and Her Dirty Hair Halo

This Minneapolis-based blogger behind Dirty Hair Halo certainly makes the most of less-than-perfect weather conditions. Even in the cold and snow, Shannon Licari puts together eclectic, unique looks that are anything but drab and dreary. Using pops of color and accessories that range from cheeky heart-shaped sunglasses to headbands or a porkpie hat, she’s got plenty of style that we can all take some inspiration from – even those of us who have finally made it through the snowy months.

StyledOn: Tell us a little about yourself – how did you get into blogging?
Shannon Licari: I was inspired by the fashion blog community and I thought it’d be fun to document my own style and build something I could look back on. So much of fashion blogging is based on sharing and inspiring others, but my blog also serves as a place where I can keep all my inspirations and self portraits together.

SO: What’s the style scene like in Minneapolis?
SL: It’s freezing right now, so… bundly. There’s a lot of different styles here: indie-punk, sweetheart vintage, eclectic thrift, classic, etc. Minneapolis is an artistic city and it’s reflected in the variety of people’s wardrobes. We also have a very small fashion week showcasing local designers and stylists, which means the fashion scene is hungry and growing.

SO: Do you work in fashion or hope to one day?
SL: I wish I worked in fashion, whether it be styling, photographing, marketing, whatever. I’m doing what pays the bills right now, but if something came along I’d be all over it.

SO: What is the most treasured item in your closet?
SL: My vintage patchwork faux fur jacket. It’s very Janis Joplin.

SO: What’s at the top of your wishlist right now?
SL: I want a pair of snakeskin printed jeans from Topshop. I also want Chloe’s version of a combat boot in candy apple red.

SO: Are there any trends you wish would just go away?
SL: Nope, keep 'em coming. I appreciate any trend that comes along, even if I’d never wear it. I think it’s important to keep your mind open to what’s happening. It encourages self-improvement.

SO: Do you have any big plans or goals for your blog this year?
SL: Since it’s so cold right now my blog is more inspiration than about my personal outfits. I’m enjoying mixing it up with more than just my outfit photos, it’s like putting together a pretty collage and it’s less egotistical.

SO: We love your blog and read it on a regular basis. Which blogs do you read the most?
SL: I read a ton of blogs. A ton. Right now I’m most inspired by the boho/grunge/gypsy movement and love visiting Oracle Fox, Purse ‘n Boots, Dora’s Fur, Young & Reckless, Disarming Darling and Shiny Plastic Hag among many others

SO: Tell us something about yourself that we might not expect.
SL: I’m Filipino, Native American and French. I’m also a twin (he’s a boy). I used to have a pixie haircut. I love black licorice. I lift weights and enjoy it. I think 12:34 is a lucky time of the day to catch on the clock.

Are you loving Shannon's style?
