With freezing cold winters and hot summers, Chicago might be a challenge for many aspiring fashionistas, but not for Anna Jane of See Jane, who looks as chic in the snow as she does in the sun. From pictures of her stunning destination wedding to her style experiments and girl-about-town outfits, there's no end to the ways Anna Jane is inspiring us. Check out our interview with her below, and see the rest of her blog here!
StyledOn: Tell us a little about yourself – how did you get into blogging?
Anna Jane Wisniewski: I'm 27 and currently work for a men's fashion start-up called Trunk Club. Previously, I worked for a consulting firm and started blogging in 2010 as a way to share my passions, write and to escape from corporate life. At first, it was just a little fun side project for me fill the time when I was alone on the road for work; I had no idea there was such a huge blogging world out there!
SO: Who or what has most influenced your style?
AJW: I would say that mostly stylish people I see on the street and other fashion blogs have the greatest influence on me at the moment. Seeing others peoples' daily outfits is nothing short of inspiring but watching an outfit in action to see how it truly works is what gets me every time. I've always had a huge interest in fashion since I was little (my mom and sisters' are quite stylish, I might add) and although I've had my missteps (e.g. denim mini skirts), I've always been pretty thoughtful in what I choose to wear.
SO: How do you stay chic in the harsh winters of Chicago?
AJW: Chicago can be brutally cold. Sometimes you just want to give up and wear your puffy coat and Uggs but I try to just pile on layers to keep the chill out. Thin sweaters are key for layering (throw on a button-down underneath) as are a multitude of cold-weather accessories, like scarves (Chicago gals have quite the collection), gloves, thick socks and hats/earmuffs.
SO: What is the most treasured item in your closet?
AJW: My Burberry trench. I bought it while traveling in San Francisco for work during a pre-season sale. It's held up so well over the years and I never fail to pull it out to battle the elements especially during the spring and fall.
SO: What’s at the top of your wishlist right now?
AJW: I have an itch for a new bag, so that's definitely topping my list right now. I can't stop looking at the Proenza Schouler PS1, Reed Krakoff boxer tote, Mulberry Alexa or Celine tote. I'm also longing for a fun pair of pastel skinny jeans, printed blazers and brightly colored blouses to beat these winter blues.
SO: If someone were to play you in the movie version of your life, who would it be?
AJW: I'm convinced that I don't have a celebrity double; can I just pick Diane Kruger? I think she's so flawlessly beautiful with such a stylish point of view. She's definitely one of my celebrity style icons.
SO: Where are your favorite places to shop in Chicago?
AJW: I love Tangerine and Trillium in Bucktown and Barney's in the Gold Coast. Also, one of my absolute favorite stores in Chicago doesn't sell clothing--The Painted Lady, which sells home furnishings.
SO: We love your blog and read it on a regular basis. Which blogs do you read the most?
AJW: I have a ton of blogs that I love and read regularly--and the list just keeps growing! A few favorites include: Design Sponge, Cheetah is the New Black, Atlantic-Pacific, This Time Tomorrow, Smitten Kitchen, Cupcakes and Cashmere, A Lovely Escape, and 9 to 5 Chic... just to name a few!
SO: Tell us something about yourself that we might not expect.
AJW: I grew up in rural Ohio and rode horses for over 12 years. I miss my equestrian years and definitely want to get back into the saddle (literally) soon!
