If it's true what they say – that attitude is everything – then blogger Jony van Stralen has it all. Her site, Shout-Out to You is a wonderful mix of personal style, travel photos, and diary-style entries that give you a glimpse into her chic life in Den Bosch, the Netherlands. When we sat down to learn a little more about her, we were inspired by the words of wisdom and positivity that she has to offer. Read on to be inspired too, and check out her site here.
StyledOn: Tell us a little about yourself – how did you get into blogging?
Jony van Stralen: I’m a showroom manager and junior PR consultant for LifeStylePress, a fashion and lifestyle PR agency based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Fashion has always been something I’m passionate about. I think it all started when I was a little girl dressing up my Barbie dolls.
I first started blogging in 2009. Actually my younger sister inspired me to start my own blog. Back then she started a beauty blog and that definitely prompted me to start my own. At first I took pictures indoors but now my blog Shout-out To You has evolved into sharing my personal style, inspirations and my travel adventures.
SO: What is your dream career?
JvS: My current position of combining my blog and work in fashion is what I dreamed of a year ago. Now I dream about having my own jewelry line. I always believe that everything is possible, nothing is impossible. There are no limits. Whatever you can dream of can be yours.
SO: What are your style words to live by?
JvS: Stay true to yourself. Never forget who you are and never forget who you can become.
SO: Are there any emerging designers in the Netherlands that we should know about here in the US?
JvS: I think you already are familiar with Iris van Herpen and Jan Taminiau?
My two favorite designers who showed their collection at the latest edition of Amsterdam International Fashion Week were Winde Rienstra and Roya Hesam.
SO: If you could choose one designer to make your wardrobe for the rest of your life, who would it be?
JvS: I thought the Michael Kors F/W 2011 collection was absolutely gorgeous. I remember seeing the show with the high split skirt, blazer worn as a cape and the glitter black pants, and absolutely loving it.
SO: What is the most treasured item in your closet?
JvS: Many, many items I bought at my all-time favorite thrift store. For example, my vintage leather cognac shorts; I was stunned when I saw them hanging between the leather items. I even have my own Youtube channel where I show my vintage/thrift store hauls!
SO: What’s at the top of your wishlist right now?
JvS: A nice pair of black ankle boots, something similar to the Acne Pistol boots, without the Acne price tag.
SO: We love your blog and read it on a regular basis. Which blogs do you read the most?
JvS: Aw thanks so much! Here are a couple of my favorite blogs which I love to visit everyday: Sincerely Jules, Columbine Smile, Late Afternoon, Atlantic-Pacific, Blushing Ambition, Frassy, That's Chic, Gary Pepper Vintage.
SO: Tell us something about yourself that we might not expect.
JvS: At first sight some people might think that I am confident person, but sometimes I can be a bit insecure. Another thing you might not expect is that I make funny/crazy sounds to my boyfriend and cats as well.
