StyledOn: Tell us a little about yourself – how did you get into blogging?
Hannah Richtman: I started blogging a year ago for all the cliché reasons you hear from every other fashion blogger – I wanted an outlet to express my opinions on the industry, showcase my work and personal style, and a catalyst for my career in fashion. I have always been addicted to fashion and blogging gives me the opportunity to maintain a constant (fashion)high. I love being part of such an evolving and fast-paced community. It’s downright intoxicating. I’ve also always loved to write. My “wordiness” and sense of humor used to get me in trouble with teachers, so I appreciate having the freedom to write in my own style and not get downgraded for it!

SO: How has your blog evolved since you started it?
HR: I like to think that my blog evolves as I evolve. I’ve learned so much since moving to New York City from Milwaukee, Wisconsin; I continue to grow and progress every day and I like to think that my blog does, as well. I hate to be still; there is always something new to see, do, wear, and eat. The(fashion)hash represents anything that turns you on or inspires you, whether that be in fashion, in food, or in life. Originally my blog started out as a personal style site, now I not only share what I’m wearing, but I’m also posting about what I’m doing in those clothes. I think it’s more relatable and it’s definitely more fun!

SO: What are your style words to live by?
HR: HAVE FUN! Never take fashion too seriously. When getting dressed becomes a chore and not your favorite part of the day, something’s wrong.

SO: Do you work in fashion? What is your dream career?
HR: I am currently a student in Manhattan and working as a freelance stylist. But to be honest, I consider being a fashion blogger my full time job. I am constantly thinking of new posts, new outfits, and new people and brands to work with. I would love to style professionally or be the creative director for my own company. I’m very ambitious and know that eventually I need to and will be my own boss. I got lots of dreams and I am definitely in a rush to fulfill them.

SO: What is the most treasured item in your closet?
HR: My most treasured item would definitely be the ring that my boyfriend gave me for my 20th birthday (pictured below). There’s an amazing story behind it – on a spring break trip to upstate New York, we stopped in an antique jewelry shop that’s owned by this incredibly sweet octogenarian. We saw the ring and both of us immediately fell in love with it. After visiting four separate times, we decided to put it on lay away and pay for it slowly but surely. Not even a year later, my boyfriend completely surprised me by purchasing it himself and presenting it to me for my birthday. It’s beautiful and one of a kind and totally descriptive of our relationship. I’ll cherish it and the memories it holds forever.

SO: What’s at the top of your wishlist right now?
HR: Boyfriend jeans, anything with an interesting print, loafers, a perfectly tailored blazer, insanely fuzzy sweaters, delicate ankle bracelets… the list goes on and on! (Although ask me tomorrow and my answer might be totally different.)

SO: If you could go shopping with anyone for the day, who would it be and why?
HR: My mom! Even though I shop with her all the time, she is BY FAR my favorite person to go with. She and I have different tastes in clothes but we understand each other’s style and are honest about what looks good and what doesn’t. I never feel guilty about a purchase! She and I love to bond in the fitting room.

SO: We love your blog and read it on a regular basis. Which blogs do you read the most?
HR: And I love StyledOn! I read Who What Wear, Le Fashion, Because I’m Addicted, STOP IT RIGHT NOW, Hanneli, Into the Gloss, Park & Cube, and Studded Hearts on the daily. I go through hundreds of blogs a day and definitely don’t have one favorite! I really appreciate originality and thoughtful blogging – I hate to see the same photo reblogged over and over! That’s what tumblr is for, am I right?

SO: Tell us something about yourself that we might not expect.
HR: I grew up singing, dancing, and acting! Up until my senior year of high school I wanted to study musical theater and dreamt of being on Broadway. I even got a varsity letter in drama! I am still totally in love with the stage but have changed my focus to fashion because I feel there are more opportunities for me to find success. While working in this industry is also extremely competitive, I think my personality and ambition are better suited to the fashion world and I don’t regret my decision one bit!
