Set sail for the sunny skies of LA in our latest edition of Blog Love, featuring Britney Nason of Disarming Darling.
Britney Nason of Disarming Darling has that certain kind of beachy-cool that can only come from California living. She is an expert thrifter, and her sunny, boho-hippy look makes us want to ditch the office and head to the ocean. StyledOn: Tell us a little about yourself – how did you get into blogging?
Britney Nason: I started blogging while living in Melbourne, Australia two years ago. I needed a creative outlet and something to help me nurture my desire to pursue fashion.
SO: How would you describe the style scene in your hometown?
BN: The polar opposite of my style. I’m from central California, where the majority of people shop at the mall for similar outfits that they saw being worn on whatever cable television shows they watched the night before. That being said - the thrift stores in my hometown are the best I’ve ever experienced… because no one else shops there!
SO: What’s one thing you think every girl should have in her wardrobe?
BN: Combat boots, or Doc Martens. There’s nothing sexier to me than a girl who looks like she doesn’t try too hard.
SO: What is the most treasured item in your closet?
BN: This question actually stumped me - I don’t think I have a favorite item of clothing. I’m so all over the place that it really depends on the day and my mood to determine what I really love. If I was to answer this based off of how often I wear something… I’d have to go with a pair of old Kenneth Cole chocolate brown lace up boots I found at Wasteland a few years back- they look like men’s boots and have withstood everything imaginable, and I wear them nearly every day.
SO: What’s at the top of your wishlist right now?
BN: The Vagabond Vera boot. It’s so badass.
SO: If you could steal anyone’s wardrobe, whose would it be?
BN: I would pay good money to own everything in Christine from Christeric’s closet… and Mandy from Oracle Fox. Definitely those two.
SO: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
BN: My mom’s famous saying is, “This too shall pass.” It’s nice to hear when you think the world is crumbling down around you.
SO: We love your blog and read it on a regular basis. Which blogs do you read the most?
BN: As mentioned above, I love Christeric and Oracle Fox… also, Vintage Virgin and my brilliant friends Madeline of Jean Greige and Nikki of Tropic of Unicorn.
SO: Tell us something about yourself that we might not expect.
BN: I would totally give up everything technological, fashion-related, and all material possessions to live on a tropical island and sleep in a hammock for the rest of my life. I plan on doing that at some point, after I accomplish something that allows me to do it guilt-free.
