2010 was a big year for Arielle Nachmani and her style blog, Something Navy. She was featured in holiday campaigns for Olsenboye and Coach, and was styled by the wonderful Lori Goldstein for StyleCaster – and it's easy to see why. With her colorful and eclectic sense of style, Nachmani is a natural in front of the camera, and always pulls out fresh and inspiring looks we love. We sat down with the blogging beauty to talk Acne wedges, Bill Cunningham, and why she isn't making any resolutions for 2011.
StyledOn: Tell us a little about yourself – how did you get into blogging?
Arielle Nachmani: I started blogging out of uncertainty. I was trying to figure out who I was, what I want in life, my expressions, and I starting using blogging as an outlet for my art. I started last year and it sort of shaped me and is a great platform to see how I’ve been changing over the year. A breakup sort of forced me to put all my energy into my blog, and I couldn’t be happier.
SO: Are you a full-time blogger, or do you have work/projects on the side?
AN: I’m a full time blogger. I have other things I do like painting and photography, but the blog allows me to use all of my passions and provides plenty of projects. Lots coming up, stay tuned!
SO: You’ve worked on awesome projects with Coach, Olsenboye and more. What makes for a great blogger/brand collaboration?
AN: I think the reason why I was chosen to collaborate with such amazing brands is because I stay true to my style and it is my own unique art that no one else can emulate. To most brands, I believe they look for something different, girls who hope to inspire. It was truly an honor to be able to work with them and the other bloggers.
SO: If you could collaborate with any brand, or designer, whom would you most want to work with?
AN: Lori Goldstein was always someone I wanted to work with, so when she chose me for her shoot that was sort of a dream come true. To be one of the bloggers to represent Mary Kate and Ashley’s Olsenboye Holiday collection was also something I never would’ve imagined. If I could do some sort of work with Rodarte or Lanvin that would be the top of everything for me.
SO: What was the best gift you gave and the best you received this holiday season?
AN: The best gift I received this holiday were my Acne wedges and all the cards. Cards are my favorite part of a gift. I save them all.
SO: What was your proudest fashion moment of 2010?
AN: My proudest fashion moment of 2010 was when my older sister lent me a sample dress from one of my favorite designers to wear to the Coach holiday campaign launch, also when I was at Lincoln Center during fashion week Bill Cunningham stopped me and photographed my outfit. That was hands down the best moment EVER.
SO: Do you have any resolutions for 2011?
AN: I never make resolutions. I don’t believe in them nor would I ever follow through. I change my mind every single day.
SO: What is the most treasured item in your closet?
AN: Right now, my most treasured items are my Acne wedges, my vintage fur bathrug vest, my new Louboutins my sister gave me because two of my favorite clutches were stolen. At the end of the day, all of my shoes are my most treasured items.
SO: We love your blog and read it on a regular basis. What blogs do you visit the most?
AN: I absolutely LOVE Garance Doré, Trop Rouge, Knightcat, and Hardtoexplain.
SO: And lastly, what is on the top of your wishlist for 2011?
AN: For 2011 I wish the most amazing things to happen to my older sister because no one deserves it more. To get my own puppy, to continue growing as a person and to continue taking risks with my style even if it doesn’t make sense to most.
