With an eclectic style that ranges from tomboy-ish to girly and glamorous, Delmy Rivera's blog Fashion Bananas serves up doses of inspiration that we can't get enough of. With gorgous pictures that are as flattering to her as they are the city of New York, Rivera has the air of a silver screen star and isn't afraid to take risks with her wardrobe. Read our interview with the blogger and discover her advice for blogging beginners as well as her most treasured items...
StyledOn: Let's start at the very beginning. Are you originally from New York? How did you get into blogging?
Delmy Rivera: I am originally from the Bronx, New York. After creating an account on Chictopia.com I discovered a handful of cool blogs. That led me to create my own.
SO: Are you a full time blogger these days, or do you have work/projects on the side?
DR: I try to be, but work takes up a lot of my time. Right now I have a couple of projects going on, but you will have to stay tuned for those.
SO: We’ve read that you are constantly switching up your hair color and style. Have you ever had any cringe-worthy hairstyles that you now regret?
DR: All my life I had long hair. My mom would never let me cut it. One day, at 14 years old, I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut my own hair. It was a disaster. From my bangs to the length of my hair. I cried so much, and even more after my mom slapped me on my head for it! I guess that's why now I am a hair stylist.
SO:What is the most treasured item in your closet?
DR: My black boyfriend blazer. I can add it to any outfit, just like my new favorite J. Crew leopard belt.
SO: If you had to describe your personal style in one word, what would it be?
DR: I don't think there's just one word to describe my personal style. I don't follow rules, so I pretty much buy and wear whatever I like. I love experimenting.
SO: What are the top three items on your wishlist this season?
DR: The ROARKE new york liberty beaded bib necklace. And even though I have been over studs, but I really love these Christian Louboutin Sandals. Oh, and this Mulberry wallet. The one I have now is falling apart.
SO:The holidays are coming up; do you have any go-to gifts that you love to give year after year?
DR: Everyone I know loves Sephora or American Apparel, so a gift card always does it. I put more thought into gifts when it comes to my loved ones.
SO: We adore your site and visit it regularly. What are the blogs/sites that you visit the most?
DR: I love Song of Style, Street Peeper, and Gary Pepper Vintage.
SO: What is something we might not know about you from reading your blog?
DR: That I am a hopeless romantic and I am 5'10.
SO: Do you have any advice for bloggers who are just getting started?
DR: It’s your blog and you can't please everyone. So just be yourself and have fun with it.
