Beth Jones, the blonde beauty behind B. Jones Style, sits down with StyledOn to talk about personal style, the STYLIT planner, and what she's wishing for this holiday season.
From bringing out the best in her clients' style, to crafting easy-to-follow hair tutorials for some of the season's biggest hair trends, Beth Jones does it all in high style. Her blog, B. Jones Style, showcases her versatile style brilliantly; from smart business attire, to eye-popping color blocking, and even a bit of grunge, she pulls off every look effortlessly. We wanted to hear what makes this woman tick, so Beth has kindly joined us for our latest installment of Blog Love. Read on to hear about her entrepreneurial spirit and inherent fashions sense, and get inspired by B. Jones Style.
StyledOn: You’re a stylist, hair-guru, fashion writer, and more – how did you get started in the fashion industry?
Beth Jones: I started a blog called The Vintage Society in January 2007, and from there ended up with a sponsorship with Quiksilver Women. I went on to become their online fashion editor and then closed down The Vintage Society blog and re-branded myself with my new company B. Jones Style, encompassing styling, fashion writing and blogging.
SO: When you work with clients who are looking to develop their personal style, what advice do you give them?
BJ: I tell my clients, I am not a wardrobe consultant. I am not there to tell them to throw things away or what their colors are or the right cuts for their body type. I act as a stylist, helping them with their style, finding a new vision for them and really helping them to create something individual about the way they dress. I want them to feel like their own style icon.

SO: How did the STYLIT fashion planner come to be?
BJ: I have always been a planner, I love a good yearly planner that I can write down everything that I need to do and where I am going. What I wear is also very important to me throughout the year, so I used to write down outfits in the daily sections of my planner, this helped a lot when I was traveling or really busy during the week. With all this planning, I thought, “why isn’t there a planner that combines life’s activities and fashion?” So I developed STYLIT. Now I can plan out my year and fill it with fashion.
SO: What is the most treasured item in your closet?
BJ: I don’t know if I could pick one thing. I have a lot of vintage pieces that are beautiful and treasured. Some of them are my fur vest, a few kimonos, a knit sweater I love, my high waist camel trousers, and some killer fancy dresses. If there were a fire, I think I would grab those and run out the door!
SO: If you had to describe your personal style in one word, what would it be?
BJ: Whoops, three words: dramatic, vintage-inspired and eclectic.
SO: The holidays are coming up; do you have any go-to gifts that you love to give year after year?
BJ: I love finding vintage jewelry at antique shops and giving them to my girl friends. Something unique and one-of-a-kind.
SO: What are the top three items on your wishlist this season?
BJ: Top of the heap… a new camera (the Olympus E-PL1 12.3 MP Digital Camera), brown lace-up boots, and a stack of fashion books: Resort Fashion, Vogue Fashion, Gypset Style.

SO: We adore your site and visit it regularly. What are the blogs/sites that you visit the most?
BJ: I love StyleCaster, Refinery29 and The Fashion Spot, and for personal style blogs I love Sterling Style, The Glamourai, That’s Chic, and Lucy Laucht. I also read interior design blogs like Dress, Design & Décor, Decorista, and Decor8.
SO: What is something we might not know about you from reading your blog?
BJ: I’m not much of a “scenester.” My favorite times are with my husband and friends, having dinner parties, eating at local favorites, thrift and vintage shopping or hitting up flea markets–those are the best times.
SO: Do you have any advice for bloggers who are just getting started?
BJ: Create good content. Be true to what you love and your personal style. Be consistent. Have fun with it! Back in the day, before blogs were “the thing,” we just did it for fun. Stick to that!
