Anh's beautiful style photos, shot on the hilly streets of San Francisco, are inspiring us to re-examine what makes a look work-appropriate. Her blog, 9to5Chic showcases looks that never sacrifice style for the sake of business-suiting, and are anything but boring. Read on to hear her tips for feeling great in your work clothes, even if you have to wear a suit, and the surprise midnight snack she had delivered to her wedding!
StyledOn: Tell us a little about yourself – how did you get into blogging?
Anh: I’m a Marketing Manager for a small Medical Device company in San Francisco. My job requires me to be very serious in my communication. Even projects that tend to be creative, like marketing collateral, need to be pretty dry and technical. Fashion has always been something I’m passionate about and blogging about it has given me an outlet for my true voice. Finding a way to bring fashion and personal style into an otherwise conservative workplace is a challenge I like undertaking every day!
SO: Your work requires you to dress a bit more conservatively at times. How do you express your style on days when you have to wear more “serious” clothes?
Anh: There are those occasions where nothing will do but a suit. Luckily for me, those times are limited. But when they are required, a cocktail ring, interesting necklace or beautiful silk blouse will still make me feel like “me.”
SO: What are your style words to live by?
Anh: Stay true to yourself and your body. Not everything works for everyone and every body; find what works and work it!
SO: How would you describe the style scene in San Francisco?
Anh: I love living in San Francisco! I feel like the blogging scene has been growing tremendously - many more events and fun get togethers. I love that I’ve been able to meet other bloggers and readers in the area!
SO: What is the most treasured item in your closet?
Anh: My most treasured item is my Burberry trench coat – not only because it’s a classic piece worth investing in, but because it was a gift from my husband on our first wedding anniversary and it was an absolute surprise. Trust me when I say that I’m not easily surprised and I tend to be difficult to shop for!
SO: Is there something you think every woman should have in her wardrobe?
Anh: I think every woman should have an amazing pair of trousers that fit like a dream.
SO: Are you more of a shoe girl, or more of a handbag girl?
Anh: That is a tough, tough question! I often splurge on shoes and handbags and both give me an equal amount of joy. But I would have to say handbags are a better investment. Shoes will eventually fall apart or lose their support (even with the best preventative care), but purses can truly withstand the test of time.
SO: Tell us something about yourself that we might not expect.
Anh: French fries are one of my favorite foods! So much that I just had to have fresh and piping hot McDonald’s French fries delivered to our dancing wedding guests as our late evening snack.
