Confession: During the winter months I spend too much time folding and cutting snowflakes–always have and probably always will. I find the challenge of cutting a snowflake entertaining and often stay up all night cutting just a few until they're perfect. I can't really describe why I find it so relaxing, but playing with paper–carefully manipulating, folding, wrinkling, distressing and cutting it–is tremendously satisfying on a very physical level.
Now that spring is on its way, snowflakes seem a tad out of place, which is one of the reasons I was so pleased to see Ruche’s latest look book and the beautiful (and totally DIY-able) backdrops. Even better is the fact that Mai posted an entire DIY on the boutique’s blog on how to get the look with just a few basic materials and steps...
To create the paper flowers above you'll need creativity, butcher paper, a stapler, tape, scissors, ribbon or string. First take you paper (whatever size you like) and fold it in half, then fold the entire sheet as an accordian (one fold forward, one fold back). Staple the center of the strip of paper (which is what it will look like once completely folded) and cut rounded edges on one edge, at the top and bottom, which will create the petal shape. Unfold and voila!, you've got a flower! Now, make about 30 more. :)
P.S. If you love Anthropologie, you might want to shop the collection at Ruche: same look, but for much less.
How often do you DIY? Post images of the things you’ve created – we’d love to see them!
