Think the bondage trend isn't for you? Nonsense! This fall, it really isn't as scary as you might think.

B is for Bondage

Over the years, bondage has gotten a bad name. Strongly associated with all things goth and S&M, bondage to most people simply means black leather straps, dungeons, and a style that most can't relate to – let alone pull-off. While this Rick Owens-led trend has been around for a while, this fall, bondage grows up. Prepare to be strapped in...

Hitting the runways at Alexander Wang, Altuzarra, Burberry Prorsum, Gareth Pugh and more, bondage-inspired pieces look sexy, sophisticated and smart this season. Each of the above talented designers played with the idea of restraint in, well, a restrained, chic manner. Walking the line between what is scary-good and scary-bad, they focused on perfecting (and modernizing) the fit of leather pants, strappy detailing throughout the garments, and creating killer accessories.

Giving off a don't mess with me vibe, our picks above will help give your wardrobe a boost of bad-ass confidence before the first leaves fall: Start with a leather dress that you can build up by layering this fall – we love the little one shown above, to the left, by Barlow. Use Kimberley Taylor's braided belt ($195) to effectively cinch in your basic cardigan or coat for a less obvious, but still spot-on dose of bondage. New from Rebecca Minkoff, the lust bag ($395) features a completely studded strap, as well as a dominatrix-inspired tassel. And what says bondage more than a great pair of really over-the-knee boots? We're loving the Barley leather boots at TopShop – and especially their price of $250.00.

Not ready to take on this trend all the way? Strap on a simple wrap bracelet from METALSKIN for well under $100, or try a classic John Hardy coil ring ($325), which works as well and will be something you'll end up wearing year after year. Of course, the Hermès Collier de chien (which we recently dissected) also falls heavily under this trend as well.

Will you be embracing the bondage trend this fall?

I'm all over this trend, but in the most ladylike way as possible, of course ;)
