Single this Valentines day? We've all been there. Don't just sit around waiting for cupid's arrow to to strike, go ahead and spread some love to those most important to you – yourself included!

This February 14th, don't play hostess at your own pity party. Take the day to celebrate love with some of our tried and true alternatives instead...
Love Thy Self
Indulging yourself is nothing to be ashamed of. After all, if you're not lovin' yourself, it really is impossible to love others. The power of touch should never be overlooked, so treat yourself to a lovely massage and get all those kinks worked out at the hands of another, even if they are a stranger. We recommend Lao Yu's for a truly amazing, albeit not the most glamorous, rub down. If you're looking for something a little more luxe, try D'mai Urban Spa, but be sure to book your appointment soon as they are heavily in demand. Alternatively, you could love yourself with any of these...
Be Your Own Vixen
Of the pearls of wisdom that my loving mother has passed down to me, the one that I adhere to most loyally is, "if you're having a bad day, buy yourself some pretty new underthings." Donning some killer lingerie always makes me feel like a sex goddess, regardless of whether or not I have somebody to show it off to. Just knowing that I look damn good under my clothes makes me feel badly for all the men around me who aren't in on my secret. Check out Azaleas in the East Village for their incredible selection, or shop online at HerRoom, where the inventory is stocked to the brim with "Lingerie We Buy for Ourselves".

Brunch with Your Besties
It may seem as though everybody in the universe is one half of an annoyingly smug couple, but this is never actually the case. Chances are that you have at least one friend who finds his or herself in the same single boat that you're in. Valentine's Day falls on a Sunday this year, so make the most of it and take your unattached friends out to brunch. If the feeling of camaraderie doesn't cheer you up, the mimosas and bloody marys sure will. Try one of StyledOn's favorite brunch spots Prune and order their famed hole-in-one.

Pamper Your Pooch
Loyal as only a dog can be, my dachsund Amelia has been by my side through breakups, makeups and random hookups. She always loves my paramours when they are around, but she never seems to miss them once they're gone. If only it was so easy for the rest of us. Show some love for the number one pet in your life by spoiling him or her with some of the great offerings available at Trixie + Peanut. We're really feeling the Puppy Love Collection and the Best Friends Charm.

Spread the Love
We are true believers in the old adage, the more love you give, the more you will get. It has been a difficult year for many and offering your service to those in need is one of the best ways to boost your morale on what could be an otherwise lonely day. Spend the day bringing joy to other people's lives with God's Love We Deliver  or take a class with the American Red Cross so you will be prepared to help out in the wake of a natural disaster.

If you Must...
And if nothing here makes you fell better, check out Things To Be Miserable About, which will undoubtedly put things in perspective for you.

How will you be celebrating Valentine's Day this year?
