Jessica Helgerson stays ahead of the curve. Her firm worked on one of the first LEED certified buildings in America, UCSB’s Bren Hall. She has served as the president of The Sustainability Project, and is currently working on the interior design for a single-family residential building, the first of its kind in the Northwest. Her 15 years of experience in green interior design have made her firm among the best at reducing energy consumption, saving water, and sourcing from local, sustainable businesses.
The house shown here, a turn-of-the-century four-square in Southeast Portland, Oregon, was completely remodeled, with Helgerson working closely alongside the contractors to create a big, bright kitchen, new woodwork, wainscoting and more. Many of the furnishings in the home were custom made, including the blown-glass sculptures by artist Andy Paiko. For her work on the project, Helgerson’s team received a Pacific Northwest Design Award for Best Residential Project under $400K.
