Good Eats: Cubana Cafe

Looking for a good bite for a few bucks? Head to Cubana Cafe on Thompson Street for delicious quesadillas and stiff drinks.

Down a short set of steps on Thompson Street is the small-but-mighty Cubana Café, serving up tasty takes on classic Cuban cuisine. The vibe is low-key and cozy, with bright bottles of Jarritos sodas lining the walls and vinyl-covered banquettes.

The menu features delicious quesadillas, juicy pulled pork, and my personal favorite, a stuffed poblano chile with calamari and shrimp. The margaritas are taste-tacular, the sangria is stellar and the tres leches cake is not to be missed. Try Cubana Café for lunch or dinner; their breakfast menu is served all day (although they don't open until 11:30 am, curiously), and the crowd is always interesting.

Bring cash (no cards accepted) and don't bring your whole posse, this spot is small and intimate and better for date night than a dinner party.
