In the heart of downtown Portland is a hotel hotspot that continues to turn heads with its styledon decor, green sensibilities and chic rooftop restaurant and bar.
Located on the top nine floors above what is now a Macy's department store, The Nines Hotel is a downtown hotspot and must-stay hotel. In true Portland fashion, the focus is on art, aesthetics, and green design. The hotel's art collection numbers over 400 works from mostly local artists, and adjacent to the expansive lobby area is a library offering over 3,000 books in partnership with Powell's Books, a Portland landmark. Bathrooms feature dual-flush toilets to help conserve water, rainforest-style showers, and products from Remede.
The rooms are Sophia-Coppola's-Marie-Antoinette chic, featuring Tiffany blue accents, heavenly pillow-top beds, and for some, views of the Cascade mountain range. Ascend to the rooftop for a martini and mingling at Departure, offering modern takes on Asian cuisine and a rotating happy hour menu with options like BLT skewers, shiu mai dumplings, and chicken wings with sweet vinegar that are out-of-this-world good. The view from Departure is breathtaking, looking out over the Willamette and bustle of Pioneer Square. But the real eye candy is the crowd that frequents the restaurant for a taste of exclusivity above the bustle of the city.
We'll certainly be back, and if you find yourself in the Northwest, the Nines is not to be missed.
