Ever had to throw away an $80 bottle of facial cleanser at security check because it was more than 3 ounces? We have. And we cried. Here's how to avoid shedding unnecessary tears because of silly flight restrictions.

Stay Calm and Carry On

We admit to being the kind of people who would happily bring everything (including the kitchen sink) with us on vacay – but unfortunately it just isn't possible with airline regulations and restrictions these days. Now we can either hope to argue our way through securty (which doesn't ever work) or follow these five simple tips to help us all stay calm and carry on:

1. Make sure to use one-quart plastic zipper bag to contain all your liquid (and cream) containers.

2. Use brand name bottles to store liquids and creams – even if you refill them with something else. The one thing airport security likes less than letting seriously spiked accessories through the check-point are liquids they can't immediately identify.

3. Only use bottles that carry 3 ounces or less. Putting less liquid into a larger container won't necessarily fly with most security guards.

4. Remember that if you're flying internationally the rules may be more stringent than they are in the US. Do a little research and no Chanel foundation will be spilled.

5. And finally, if you have a bunch of creams, gels, liquids, etc, seriously consider checking your bags. No one likes to do this if they don't have to, but sometimes checking your bags makes more sense.

What are three things that you simply can't travel without? In other words, what's in your carry-on bag?

This is so helpful. I cry for those who lost LaMer products--i'm sure it's happened before.
