Thanksgiving will be here soon, thus beginning the frenzy that is holiday travel. Joy.
Every year we pull out the old suitcases and cringe. Battered and beaten, most of our baggage has seen better days. Well, this might be the year we step things up a bit because we've fallen in love with the beyond-chic line of suitcases from Rimowa.
Like most things, we prefer our cases hard and Rimowa's sleek shell is the best we've seen. Back in 1937, Richard Morszeck first came up with the idea of the aluminum suitcase, and in 1950 he gave it the signature grooves. Its design, stability and weight (read: lightweight) all led to it becoming the beloved travel companion that it is today.

In keeping with the moto "Handmade meets high-tech," Rimowa suitcases are created with a perfect balance of manual technique and innovative technology. Over the years, the company has experimented with and incorporated materials such as polycarbonate (widely used in the aerospace industry), and developed the strong lock security system so not only are the cases super light, but they are super secure. The lock casing is practically indestructible and the automatic opening mechanism can be activated only with a personal combination.
However, living in the age that we do, Rimowa products are now equipped with the newly developed locks developed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). They can be opened by USA customs officials and alleviate international luggage transfer considerably.

The Salsa Air (our favorite) is Rimowa's lightest case yet and is available in four sizes and four different colors including ultra violet, Inca gold, aquamarine, and navy blue. And while the outside of the case is absolutely gorgeous, the inside lining is also light and yet as strong as parachute silk.

And as you've probably guessed, these bags aren't cheap. They'll set you back around $450-$600 (which could be used towards a future vacation), but if you're looking for a suitcase high in style and durability, but low in weight, these are the ones to buy. Might as well put one on your holiday wishlist now!
The collection is available around the world at 33 flagship stores and around 3,000 retail shops - find the location nearest you here.
Are you in need of some new luggage or still happily carting around your old ones?
