Take a break from the FNO mayhem on Friday to check out the opening reception of Pipilotti Rist's latest exhibit at Luhring Augustine.

Pipilotti Rist "Heroes of Birth"

Opening this weekend at Luhring Augustine gallery is the latest exhibit from Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist, called “Heroes of Birth.” The gallery’s main space will house “Layers Mama Layers,” featuring shifting projections on sheer fabrics draped around the room, and the entry gallery will house “All or Nothing,” as described on the gallery’s website:

“Mounted on the wall, this triptych of screens will feature imagery of body parts rippling in rhythmic motion, mesmerizing in their perpetual search for synchronicity in bodily language that walks the line between the erotic and the spiritual.”

Rist has designed a wallpaper to cover the rear gallery, which will include “Massachusetts Chandelier,” made of a metal skeleton covered in second-hand underpants and lit by two projections. Rist recently exhibited "Pour Your Body Out (7534 Cubic Meters)" (below) at the MoMA and is regarded as one of the most popular installation artists working today. Whether or not you find her work resonates with you personally, Rist's work is nothing if not pretty. The scale of her work creates a different gallery-going experience than traditional frame-on-wall installations, and can be seriously hypnotizing. Get inspired by "Heroes of Birth," and tell us what you think!

Will you take a break from the fashion week mayhem to enjoy Rist's new work?
