The summer heat has settled in, and there is no better way to enjoy the sunshine than to lie in the grass and have a picnic feast. New York City has some incredible locations for summer picnicking, but of course, Central Park takes the cake. Some prime picks in Central Park include: Wagner Cove, Cedar Hill, Cherry Hill, East Green, and the Sheep's Meadow. Other spots to check out are Battery Park City, which features the River & Blues music series at Wagner Park (through July 29th), and Madison Square Park, which hosts the Oval Lawn Series every Wednesday at 7:00 pm until August 4th.
Here's all the accouterment you'll need to pack (aside from the food, of course):
Above: We love the Oliver Bonas picnic tin for its vintage appeal, and those adorable embroidered napkins (about $108); This classy version of the lunchroom cutlery set comes in a printed package that's almost too cute to toss out ($5 each); Bring the picnic inside with this picnic table condiment set (too cute!) ($20).
Pack up the potato salad in these green gingham containers, and send your guests home with one full of leftovers ($14 for 6); Not packing cold drinks in a cooler is an amateur mistake you don't want to make – this one should do the trick ($18); These colorful cups are a great grown-up alternative to the red plastic disposable versions ($16.99 for 4).
Squishy bowls collapse when you're done with them, making them quick to clean up and easy to pack (10.95 for medium size); We can't get enough of Anorak's adorable prints, but the kissing bunnies picnic blanket is our favorite ($55).
If you’re not into the DIY aspect of the picnic, why not have the whole experience delivered to you? That Picnic Place brings your basket to your feet, and the best part: you get to keep the basket, blanket and everything else that comes with it.
How will you picnic this summer?
