Planning a trip to England? Be sure to stay at the gorgeous Halcyon Hotel in historic Bath.

Heavenly Haven: The Halcyon

Inside a nondescript townhouse in Georgian Bath is a hotel hideaway well worth the trip. Surrounded by incredible restaurants and with dozens of cultural festivals in Bath throughout the year, the Halcyon should be at the top of your list for your next vacation destination. With 21 sleek rooms “all on the swanky side of cool,” the Halcyon offers comfort and class for very reasonable rates. A standard room starts at just £99, and includes a flat screen, a divinely comfortable bed and a rainshower-style showerhead you're sure to get addicted to. You’ll be happy to lay your head in any of their rooms after a long day of enjoying the city.

In the Halcyon bar, be sure to sample the “Halcyon Signature,” a refreshing mix of tequila, Chambord, triple sec and fresh raspberries (yum!). Sit outside in the sunshine or wrap up in a fleece blanket in the cool evening air. In the morning, the bar turns into a coffee house, where you can enjoy a selection of tasty pastries as you sip your morning latte and get ready for the day.

Part of a burgeoning hotel movement that endorses comfort and style over superfluous amenities (much like the Ace Hotel and the James Hotel in Chicago, for example), the Halcyon is homey and inviting and will have you planning a return trip before you’ve even checked out.

What are your favorite hotels?
