I don't consider myself incredibly well-versed in contemporary art, but there is one artist whose work I am very familiar with and seek out in every modern art museum I visit: Gerhard Richter. The world-renowned German painter will debut his latest exhibition of abstract work this weekend at the Marian Goodman Gallery, including pieces from 2005 to present and a cycle entitled Sindbad, 2008. Richter's body of work is massive and consists of more than just abstract work, but there is something equally compelling in his abstractions as in his portraits or blurry photograph paintings of people in the middle of boat trips or sports.
The exhibition will be on view until January 9th, and is celebrated with an opening reception tomorrow night, Saturday November 7th, 6-8 pm at the gallery space in Manhattan.
