We're no CNN, but here's our take on what's been happening lately from Lara Stone suing Playboy to Chelsea Clinton getting married, Mad Men-inspired nail polish to Essence hiring a white fashion director.
1. Forget Bethenny – Chelsea Clinton is getting married and everyone is dying to know more about the nuptials. What dress is she wearing? Most believe Oscar de la Renta or Vera Wang, but who really knows? Caterers, floral designers, musicians and the rest of the regalia affiliated with the three-day affair are sworn to secrecy. The Clintons want this to be a very private affair, so, of course, everyone wants to know about it. Do you? As someone who has just attended the wedding of my best friend, I say that whatever that bride wants, the bride should get. If she wants privacy, then dammit, that's what we should all give her. (WWD and everywhere else)
2. Lara Stone is suing Playboy – French Playboy that is, which is different than American Playboy and has featured many real models over the years including Lily Cole. Although Stone is famous for her breasts, which we've all seen hundreds of times in editorial spreads over the last couple of years, she wants no one to confuse her with a Girl Next Door. "[Playboy is] not the kind of publication I would ever choose to appear in," Stone has said. (Vogue.UK)
3. Angelina Jolie may begin tweeting soon as @AngelinaJolie. We think she'll either offer some great, insightful thoughts or go all Gwynnie on us. Oh, and Kayne (@kanyewest) joined twitter yesterday – apparently he jogs in Lanvin. Have you joined twitter yet? You should. Here's how to get started and who to follow in the world of fashion.
4. Get Chuck Bass or Don Draper at your fingertips: Nicole by OPI unveiled nail polishes inspired by Gossip Girl and Janie Bryant, the Mad Men costume designer, has partnered with nail polish brand Nailtini on four limited edition nail lacquers for fall that are obviously inspired by the fabrics used in cocktail dresses during the Mad Men era — velvets, satins and lamés. The GG lacquer colors are said to be inspired directly by the show's storylines – perfect to wear whether you’re into scandals, secrets and/or just shopping. So I guess the question now is: Are you looking to snag Chuck Bass or Don Draper? I'm going for Don. (Teen Vogue and WWD)
5. Essence (the fashion magazine created for African-American women) has hired a white fashion director. While we always think that the best person should get the job, this particular hiring is quite loaded. What are your thoughts on this? (Clutch Mag)
6. President Obama dined with our Fashion President, Anna Wintour, at her home. We wish we had been invited.
7. Fall fashions have hit stores and sites – and we are dying to wear them already! We'll certainly be donning full 50s and floor-length skirts, loose sweaters, leopard print, more lace, SHEARLING and will probably splurge on killer boots, fantastic lady-like pumps, and of course, new coats and fur, fur, fur! Oh, and did you see ELLE's Joe Zee sporting fur? As Refinery29 says, Dying of LOL.
What's new with you?
