The fashion world always loves a good riff on androgyny, and The Kooples is making noise with its line of almost interchangeable men’s and womenswear. Parisian shoppers knew a bit what to expect before the recent opening as the store’s advertising campaign started over the summer with candid photography of real-life couples à la American Apparel donning the new couple’s-based line. The idea of the new brand created by the Elisha brothers, former designers for Comptoir des Cotonniers, was to establish a new yet familiar concept for a unisex clothing line. Among the black and white interior of the store you’ll find clothes for men and women which share similar designs, the same vibe and even same materials—a novel idea following the concept that people in a relationship often share one another’s clothes.
