Belgian-born Martin Margiela worked for Jean Paul Gaultier for two years before launching his own clothing and accessories label in 1988. Margiela has since gone on to be recognized as a true leader of contemporary style and the elusive designer, who famously never appears on the runway or in photographs, is known for pushing the boundaries between art and fashion with his avant-garde creations.
