Mimi Jung, founder of BROOK&LYN, is debuting her jewelry collection "surrounded" on June 30, 2010. The collection was inspired by a set of rare one-of-a-kind agate stones that Mimi discovered during a recent trip to Hong Kong. Lost in the Wan Chai district, Mimi had ducked into a stone shop to take a break and there found, unexpectedly, various piles of agate slabs. Agate had not typically appealed to her- most agates have muddled, overly bright patterns- but Mimi casually looked through the store's stock. A few slabs, she noticed, had a beautiful soft coloring, with unusual, almost organic markings. She took some of the stones home, inspired to create something for herself. This was the inception of "surrounded." The name of the collection, "surrounded" is an homage to the process of creating each piece. An agate stone is naturally composed of a center ring surrounded by concentric rings of varying shape and color. Each stone's ring pattern is echoed by a hand-crocheted border and the entire piece is then surrounded in rope.
