Shop ‘til You Drop: Fashion’s Night Out
Feature Article in Fashion by Casey Kettleson / September 9, 2009
"Fashion's Night Out is a super idea,” says famed footwear designer Stuart Weitzman. “Since I will be visiting two of my New York stores that night, it allows me the opportunity to personally help my customers choose the perfect shoe for fall now that the whole collection has delivered." If that doesn’t satisfy your sole, you’ll have the chance to challenge Weitzman to a game of ping-pong - seriously.
Weitzman will also make an appearance at Bergdorf Goodman, as will many other designers and prominent figures in fashion. At 5:30, Zac Pose will be painting one-of-a-kind dresses in the 5th Avenue windows; Padma Lakshmi will judge a cook-off between Cynthia Rowley, Gilles Mendel, Lela Rose, Naeem Khan, and Peter Som; at 7pm you can tell Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen whether you prefer things shaken or stirred when they play guest bartenders. André Leon Talley, Donna Kara, Doo.ri Chung, Georgina Chapman, Linda Fargo, Kara Ross, the ever-entertaining Isaac Mizrahi, and more will all be stopping by as well. Eight lucky shoppers will have a chance to win $5,000 shopping sprees from exclusive retailers as well.
Another one-stop party is happening right up the road at Barneys New York. Creative director, Simon Doonan, in addition to hosting a shoe give-away at 9pm on the 4th floor, will be present along with a slew of other insanely talented and fabulous people. If you’ve ever wated to hang out and shop with Jack and Lazaro of Proenza Schouler, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (again!), Alexander Wang, Thom Browne, Jonathan Adler, Narciso Rodriguez, the Rodarte girls, and more - now is your chance.
But don’t think that Fashion’s Night Out is only for the big guys. No, no. In fact, the entire initiative was created to celebrate the love of fashion and commerce at every level - including at independent and smaller boutiques.
At Nicole Romano’s Pop-Up Shop in The Plaza, the lovely fashion and jewelry designer will be creating customized necklaces right on the spot, giving away one of her best earrings from the season, and also sharing her favorite Italian wine and pastries. Romano is also the subject of a Japanese fashion documentary, which will be filming on location for Fashion’s Night Out, so be sure to stop by and wear your favorite pieces by the designer.
To see other inspired baubles the same evening, check out Meredith Khan’s one-of-a-kind and archived Made Her Think pieces at Curve. Other reason’s to swing by the boutique? Jenni Kayne is presenting her Spring 2010 collection and a sick pair of Isabel Marant chain boots will be given away to one lucky shopper.
Not that we really needed another reason to shop in general, but we’ve made our itinerary, checked it twice, and are ready to mix, mingle, and shop ‘til we drop. See the official Fashion’s Night Out website below for more information and a complete list of events. We goin’ run this town tomorrow night.
